‘Slender Man’ stabber’s troubled trans bestie would sneak through window to visit her in custody
The transgender friend who was arrested with the escaped “Slender Man” stabber Morgan Geyser has a long list of prior arrests, including domestic‑abuse charges. Records show that she once climbed through a window to see Geyser in her group home.
On Sunday night, 43‑year‑old Chad Mecca was taken into custody at a truck stop in Poysen, Illinois, along with Geyser, who was 23 at the time. The arrest came just over a day after Geyser snipped her ankle monitor with scissors and fled from the group home she was assigned to in Madison, Wisconsin, 150 + miles away.
Mecca appears in the charge sheet as male, although Geyser described him as a transgender woman. Court filings reveal a long trail of offenses: in February last year he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct after a domestic‑violence incident in Rock County, Wisconsin, and was ordered to pay $50 plus costs; a battery charge was dismissed. Geyser’s pal—who was caught with disheveled blue hair and a low‑cut pink top in a mug photo—also faced several traffic violations, such as driving with a suspended license, running a red light, failing to wear a seat belt and not paying attention to the road.
The pair reportedly first met in a Madison church. While the exact nature of their relationship isn’t disclosed, they grew close enough that Mecca would sneak into the group home. Local authorities had fought to keep Geyser from moving there, and the pair decided to run when they felt she was being treated poorly.
According to the entry‑way report, Geyser told officers that Mecca had repeatedly gotten into the group home by climbing through the window. She also admitted cutting off her ankle monitor and said the two’d talked about heading to Nashville, Tennessee, though the motive behind that plan remains unclear.
Unhappy with how Geyser was treated, the two set off on a Greyhound ride from Wisconsin to Chicago, walked to the south side, hopped another bus to Poysen, and eventually ran out of money at a gas station.
Mecca faced charges of criminal trespass and obstructing identification, was released on a citation and a notice to appear. Geyser is held under a nationwide extradition warrant and was scheduled to appear in court that Tuesday.
The past also includes the 2014 spree in which Geyser and a girl named Anissa Weier lured classmate Payton Leutner into the woods and stabbed her 19 times. Geyser pleaded not guilty on grounds of insanity, spent several years in a mental hospital, and was moved to a group home in March.
