Several Afghan citizens have voiced a sharp rebuke of Pakistan’s recent bombing campaign in Khost, Paktika, and Kunar. They accuse Islamabad of repeatedly infringing on Afghan airspace and insist that these assaults must not go unanswered, local outlets reported on Wednesday.
The backlash follows confirmation from Kabul that Pakistani forces struck a residential neighbourhood in Khost at noon on Tuesday, killing ten civilians. Separate air attacks later that night in Kunar and Paktika left four more people injured.
“We urge the Islamic Emirate to respond to this attack and ensure that the voices of the wounded children and women are heard,” Afghan media outlet TOLO news quoted Abdul Wali Ahmadzai, a Kabul resident, saying. He called for immediate action against what he described as a grave violation of Afghan sovereignty.
Other Afghans have appealed to international bodies, including the United Nations Security Council, to investigate the targeting of civilians—particularly women and children—within Pakistan’s strikes. Faramarz, another resident, said, “We call on the United Nations to follow up on Pakistan’s baseless attacks.”
The broader public also stresses the need for a reciprocal response, affirming the solidarity of the Afghan people. “As the people of Afghanistan, we stand by our government. Necessary measures must be taken by the state in response to Pakistan’s attacks,” Homayoun Faiz, a resident of Heart city, added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kabul issued a strong condemnation of the airstrikes in Paktika, Khost and Kunar, labeling them as an infringement of national sovereignty and a breach of internationally accepted norms. Caretaker government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid took to his social media platform to assert that a decisive response would be enacted when the time is right.
“The airstrikes carried out last night by Pakistani forces in Afghanistan’s Paktika, Khost, and Kunar provinces constitute a direct assault on Afghanistan’s sovereignty and a clear breach of internationally recognised norms and principles by the Pakistani authorities,” Mujahid posted on X. He added, “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemns this violation and act of aggression, and stresses that defending its airspace, territory, and citizens is its legitimate right. A necessary response will be taken at the proper time.”
