John Cena, the WWE legend and 17-time world champion, will step into the ring for his final match on December 13 as part of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.
WWE, under TKO Group Holdings, teamed up with Events DC—the official group handling conventions and sports in the nation’s capital—to announce the big news. Cena’s emotional goodbye bout will headline the show at the Capital One Arena, home of Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
This caps off Cena’s year-long retirement tour, which has included huge stops at WrestleMania 41 and SummerSlam. His incredible career boasts 17 world championships, five U.S. title wins, and two Royal Rumble victories, and it all wraps up live from D.C.
“Washington, D.C., is America’s sports capital and the ideal spot to celebrate John Cena’s amazing legacy,” said Angie M. Gates, president and CEO of Events DC. “We’re thrilled to host WWE fans from our city and worldwide for this unforgettable final showdown. Our partnership with WWE means everything, and we can’t wait to give fans memories they’ll treasure forever.”
At 48, Cena has had a stellar year on the road to retirement. He’s famous for his sharp wrestling skills, his charity efforts beyond the ring, and sticking around as one of the sport’s longest-lasting stars. His tour kicked off with a runner-up finish to Jey Uso at the Royal Rumble in February.
Cena then earned a shot at the WWE Undisputed Championship through the Elimination Chamber and beat Cody Rhodes to claim his record 17th world title. He defended it successfully against longtime foes Randy Orton and CM Punk. But at SummerSlam in August, Rhodes took the belt back.
Cena kept the action going with a fast-paced clash against Logan Paul at Clash in Paris, then fell to a returning Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza in September. Throughout the tour, he’s revisited old rivalries and shared the spotlight with fresh faces.
Next up, on October 11, Cena faces another classic opponent, AJ Styles, at the Crown Jewel event in Perth. WWE fans everywhere are counting down to what promises to be an epic end to an iconic career.
