Bhopal – Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, kicked off a two‑day trip to Madhya Pradesh on Saturday and the scene turned into a political sparring match between Congress and the BJP.
The BJP’s Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, was quick to roast Gandhi. He called the Congress leader’s stop in Pachmarhi – the state’s only hill station – a “holiday tour.” Yadav claimed that while other politicians were busy campaigning for the upcoming Bihar elections, Gandhi was hiding away at a hill station instead of standing on the campaign trail.
“Rahul Gandhi left the battlefield because he knows Congress will lose in Bihar,” Yadav said. “Once the results come out, he will find excuses and jab at the Election Commission.”
At a rally in Madhubani district, where BJP candidates are launching their campaigns, Yadav warned that if the Congress leader is spending his holidays and leaving the party in the lurch, it signals a bigger problem for Congress and its top leaders.
Gandhi arrived in Pachmarhi to address a crucial training session for the state’s district presidents. He will also meet senior state Congress leaders and plans to stay overnight at Ravishankar Bhavan. After a night of meetings and a dinner with party heads, he is scheduled to head back to Bihar on Sunday afternoon to join the election campaign.
The exchange began when Gandhi had earlier criticized the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, accusing the state government of corruption. This latest back‑and‑forth highlights the heated rivalry as regional elections loom.
