A senior physician and his wife were tragically shot on Sunday afternoon in front of their California residence, authorities say the attack was a deliberate one, not a random crime, according to reports.
Police discovered Dr. Eric Cordes and his partner, Vicki, with serious gunshot wounds in the driveway of their home in Simi Valley. They were transported to a nearby hospital but were declared dead after arrival.
Adventist Health Simi Valley released a statement praising Dr. Cordes as a highly respected, board‑certified radiologist who had served the community with compassion and excellence for almost three decades. The spokesperson also expressed deep sorrow for the loss, noting how many people had benefited from Dr. Cordes’ expertise.
The couple’s house is tucked at the end of a manicured cul‑de‑sac in a stylish part of Simi Valley. Investigators believe the shooting was not random. No suspects have been detained, and a police detective, Rick Morton, confirmed the crime was indeed “targeted.”
Surveillance footage shows the suspect leaving the scene in a vehicle, after which the gunman fled the area, the outlet added. Blood was later found inside the garage, further indicating the severity of the incident.
