Actor Marc Rissmann has just joined the new historical drama Bloodaxe, a TV series that follows the rise of the legendary Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe, played by Xavier Molyneux, and his powerful wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. Rissmann will appear in a recurring role as Greycloak, Erik’s eldest brother.
Bloodaxe is a fresh Norse saga created by Michael and Horatio Hirst, who also wrote and executive‑produce the show. The series marks another chapter in the wave of Viking‑themed dramas that followed the 2013‑2020 History show Vikings and the 2022‑2025 Netflix spin‑off Vikings: Valhalla. Although it shares the same historical tone and is produced by MGM Television, Bloodaxe charts a new timeline: it takes place decades after the original Vikings and well before Valhalla.
The show brings a seasoned production team to the screen. Alongside the Hirst duo, executive producers include Morgan O’Sullivan of OSullivan Productions, Steve Stark from Toluca Pictures, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin and Fred Toye. MGM Television, a part of Amazon MGM Studios, is at the helm of production.
German actor Marc Rissmann is best known for TV work on Prime Video’s The Man in the High Castle, Taylor Sheridan’s 1883 and Disney+’s Andor. He has also appeared in the recent film The Amateur, starring Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan and Jon Berthal. Rissmann is represented by Vault Entertainment and the Curtis Brown Group.
Bloodaxe promises to deliver another exciting chapter in Viking history, blending drama with the iconic tales of Norse mythology. ()
