Devotees throng Alopi Shankari Devi temple in Prayagraj on first day of Shardiya Navratri

As Shardiya Navratri 2025 kicked off on Monday, crowds of devotees flooded the ancient Alopi Shankari Devi temple in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, eager to kickstart the nine-day Hindu festival with prayers and blessings. This vibrant celebration honors Goddess Durga and her divine feminine energy, drawing worshippers from across the region to seek fulfillment of their wishes.
At the temple, known for its deep spiritual roots and ties to Mata Rani, visitors shared their joy and faith. Rahul Saroj told , “Today marks the first day of Navratri, and we’ve come to the Alopi Shankari Devi temple to offer our prayers.” Another devotee, Ravi, added a personal touch: “It’s the start of Navratri, so we headed to the Lopi temple. This place feels so spiritual—I’ve been connected to it since I was a kid, and every wish comes true here.” Many others echoed these sentiments, highlighting their strong devotion as they dove into the festival’s rituals.
The excitement spread far beyond Prayagraj. Early Monday, large groups gathered at Harsiddhi Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, for morning prayers to launch Shardiya Navratri festivities. In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, devotees packed Devkali Temple to celebrate the occasion.
Delhi saw a surge too, with huge crowds at Kalkaji Temple and Jhandewalan Temple. In Chhatarpur, worshippers flocked to Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir. Over in Mumbai, the Mumbadevi Temple hosted the sacred Kakad Aarti ceremony, signaling the beginning of the nine nights of worship.
Shardiya Navratri, held in the lunar month of Ashwin, spans nine days and nights dedicated to different forms of Goddess Durga, symbolizing strength, compassion, and wisdom. Devotees fast, sing bhajans, and join in lively Garba and Dandiya dances, filling the air with joy and cultural energy across India.
