Gandhinagar: Dhordo, the beautiful village in Kutch district, has just earned a big spot as Gujarat’s fourth fully solar-powered village. This comes after Modhera in Mehsana, Sukhi in Kheda, and Masali in Banaskantha. And guess what? The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) already calls it one of the world’s ‘Best Tourism Villages’ for its charm and eco-friendly vibe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick things off by inaugurating the solar project this Saturday in Bhavnagar. He’ll do it during the exciting ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ programme, as per an official update.
Thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, all 81 homes in Dhordo now boast rooftop solar panels with a total capacity of 177 kW. This setup should churn out about 2.95 lakh units of electricity every year, making the village completely self-sufficient in power.
For the locals, it’s a real win. Each household could save and earn around Rs 16,064 annually by cutting down on electricity bills and selling extra power back to the grid. That adds up to more than Rs 13 lakh in benefits for the whole community!
Dhordo’s Sarpanch, Miyan Husen, couldn’t be happier. “The government’s subsidies and easy bank loans made this almost free for everyone,” he shared. “This border village has grown so much under PM Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Now, with solar rooftops on every house, our electricity bills will drop big time, and people are super excited.”
On the same trip, PM Modi will head to Gujarat to check on the massive National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal in Ahmedabad district. This ambitious project, costing around Rs 4,500 crore, mixes history, learning, research, and fun tourism.
Lothal was a key trading spot in the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, famous for one of the world’s first dockyards. Now, it’s turning into a global hub to celebrate India’s incredible maritime history.
The NMHC perfectly fits PM Modi’s idea of ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’ – preserving heritage while boosting growth. Visitors will dive into India’s sea-faring past using cool tech and immersive setups. Expect 14 galleries tracing the story from Harappan times to today, a pavilion for coastal states, four themed parks, and even recreations of Harappan buildings and daily life. It’s set to draw crowds and put India’s ancient maritime legacy on the world map!
