One killed, three injured in two separate road accidents in Kolkata

Kolkata – Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – Police confirmed that two traffic incidents on twin roads in Kolkata resulted in one fatality and three injuries. The first collision happened late Tuesday night on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, while the second occurred early Wednesday morning on Red Road.

In the first incident, a 25‑year‑old motorcyclist named Alokesh Haldar lost his life after a high‑speed crash near the Kalikapur section of the EM Bypass around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. He was heading home from the Dhalai Bridge side toward the Ruby crossing when his bike hit a parked car at Singhabari intersection and then struck the median, sending him off his motorcycle. Alokesh was transported to MR Bangur Hospital in critical condition; doctors later pronounced him dead. Witnesses and residents reported that he wasn’t wearing a helmet and sustained severe head injuries. A case was opened at Survey Park police station, and the body has been sent for a post‑mortem.

The second crash involved a black Ferrari traveling at high speed. The vehicle first collided with a lamp post and then crashed into a tree on Red Road in central Kolkata. Traffic police said the car seemed to lose control before striking the tree, and the front of the car suffered extensive damage. Both the teenage driver and his father, who was seated beside him, were treated for serious injuries at SSKM Hospital. A pedestrian, Rashida Begum, was also hurt in the accident. The Hastings police registered a case and are conducting an investigation.

A Kolkata Police traffic officer noted, “The vehicle was registered in 2024. The car with the Maharashtra registration number has a pollution failure. We have kept the car at Hastings police station. The boy was driving the car. The father was sitting next to him. Forensic examination of the car is being arranged.” Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and looking into the possibility of overspeeding or a mechanical fault contributing to both events.
