A woman in the Bronx was hit with a razor on a northbound 2‑train as the evening rush hit around 5:30 p.m. The attacker—believed to be in her thirties—took the woman’s place in a conversation she was having, started a scuffle, and then slashed her with a razor. The assailant tried to grab the woman’s chain but was unsuccessful, after which she fled the platform. The victim was riding the train through Pelham Parkway.
That incident came just a week after a different attack on a Brooklyn train. A stranger wearing a pink coat confronted a 13‑year‑old passenger on a G‑train near Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg at about 7:50 a.m. When the teen was arguing with her, the woman seized her throat, squeezing hard enough to choke her. The teen received treatment for neck injuries on the train. Surveillance footage was released on Tuesday, and the attacker has since slipped away. Police are still looking for her.
Other violent episodes were reported last week as well. On November 19, a 28‑year‑old man named Tyquan Manassa allegedly stabbed two men on the southbound E and F‑train platform at Union Turnpike in Kew Gardens. On November 16, a 33‑year‑old man named Aaron Nett reportedly pushed a well‑meaning stranger into a moving Harlem train, breaking her back while she attempted to break up a fight at the 135th Street 2 and 3‑train station.
Despite these isolated cases, the NYPD’s latest data show a slight decline in subway assaults for the year so far. There have been 513 felony assaults reported on the rails, down from 517 last year, while misdemeanor assaults fell to 1,310 from 1,392.
