The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, spoke out against the Samajwadi Party (SP) and its president, Akhilesh Yadav, during a public rally in the town of Jalaun on Thursday. He called the SP’s comments “shocking” and said the party was trying to twist the legacy of India’s social‑justice leaders.
Yogi began by saying he had read a statement released by Akhilesh earlier that day. “The SP chief looks at India’s saints and social‑justice icons as if they are symbols of communalism, and he views rioters as peace‑keepers,” the CM said. “Our double‑engine BJP government has already made it clear who belongs on the side of riots, threats to women and traders, and criminal alliances. Those people will face strict action.”
During the visit, Yogi inaugurated 305 new development projects in Jalaun. The plans carry a budget of more than ₹1,900 crore and aim to bring new roads, schools, and health centres to the region. The chief minister cut the foundation stone, handed out certificates to beneficiaries of welfare schemes, and wished the residents a happy Diwali. He called the projects a “festival of development,” noting that improved infrastructure would replace the lawlessness often seen before festivals in the past.
Yogi accused the SP of disrespecting Dalit leaders and icons of social justice. “When the SP came to power in 2012 it spoke about tearing down monuments that honour people who lifted Dalits and fought for equality,” he said. “The party then built a mafia‑supported, chaotic network that left the youth job‑less and put women’s safety at risk. They even said, ‘They’re boys, they make mistakes,’”
The chief minister complained that the SP’s socialist movement had turned into “gangs of thugs, professional mafias, and criminals.” He praised the BJP’s record of creating jobs for over 2 crore young people through micro‑, small‑, and medium‑enterprise (MSME) programmes, and a further 60 lakhs gained job guarantees due to large investments. Adding, “If a poor person, farmer, woman, or business owner is hassled or exploited, we will remember that action for generations.”
Yogi warned that the SP’s potential return to caste‑based and communal politics would create an “identity crisis”. “They spread caste conflict and divide society,” he said. “Let’s not let them win. A united region is safe; a divided one is doomed.”
In the midst of the rally, the chief minister re‑affirmed that the double‑engine BJP government would not let any rioter or criminal take advantage of the festival season. He declared that the department will keep infrastructure secure and uphold peace, marking a contrast to the pre‑2017 era when riots had often preceded festivals. The speech showed the government’s dedication to development, law and order, and social‑justice ideals that many Uttar Pradesh residents hold.
