In Gurugram last Saturday night, a tense argument between two 11th‑class students exploded into violence when a licensed pistol was fired at a 17‑year‑old classmate. The incident happened inside a rented apartment near Central Park Resorts in Sector 48, part of a high‑end housing community in Haryana’s rapidly growing city.
Police say one of the accused called the victim repeatedly to meet him at the apartment. The boy eventually complied after several calls, but when the two reached the flat, the other teenager was already waiting. That was the moment when the main accused opened fire with his father’s registered handgun, striking the victim in the shoulder.
The wounded teenager was rushed to Medanta Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. Two other students – the shooter and the friend who helped set the trap – have been taken into police custody. Gurugram authorities filed a case on the shooting and have launched a full investigation, aided by forensic experts who examined the scene.
A search of the apartment uncovered the weapon, a magazine, five live cartridges, an empty shell and a second magazine loaded with 65 rounds. The discovery underscores how dangerous it can be when licensed firearms are left in reach of teenagers.
Gurugram Police are urging all firearm owners to lock up their guns securely and keep them out of reach of children. “We want to prevent tragedies like this from happening again,” the police said. The case is still under investigation, and further updates are expected.
