Oral-B iO 9 Review: AI-driven smart toothbrush to elevate oral care?

New Delhi, Oct. 11 – Oral‑B has launched its newest flagship electric toothbrush, the iO Series 9, mixing the best of oscillating‑rotation, sonic vibration and artificial intelligence. The device promises a smarter, more effective brushing experience, but it comes at a premium price of about INR 8,250 on Amazon after a 50‑percent discount.

The company says the iO 9 delivers “next‑generation” oral care thanks to a rotary motor that runs quietly and a 360‑degree pressure sensor. The sensor lights up a ring on the brush: green when you apply the right amount of pressure, red if you’re brushing too hard, and white if you’re gentle enough. The sensor is handy for people new to electric brushing or with sensitive gums, helping avoid accidental gum bleeding as the device learns your routine.

The iO 9 has seven cleaning modes: Daily Clean, Sensitive, Super Sensitive, Whiten, Gum Care, Intense, and Tongue Clean. Users can choose the mode that best fits their personal dental needs.

AI‑powered guidance

What sets the iO 9 apart is its AI engine. The handle sports a full‑color OLED display that greets you with a friendly “hello” or “good morning” and shows the selected mode and battery life. A two‑minute timer tracks brushing time in real time and flashes a smiley face when you finish—if you stop early, a sad face pops up.

The brush connects to a companion app over Bluetooth. Inside the app, a virtual mouth lights up to show which areas you have covered, giving you a percentage score and badges. The technology uses gyro and accelerometer sensors to map brushing coverage. It also reminds you when it’s time to replace the round brush head, which has specially engineered bristles for maximum surface contact.

Design and portability

The package is larger than an average smartphone, featuring a heavy‑touch handle, a magnetic charger, a travel case, and a brush‑head holder. The magnetic charger isn’t the strongest on the market, but it keeps the brush seated for charging. Battery life can reach 10 days on a full charge, though heavy use of the OLED screen or longer cleaning modes can shorten it. Charging takes about three hours, and the device turns off once fully charged, preventing overcharging.

Only one brush head is available for the iO 9, and its hard bristles may feel firm to some users. The head has perforations that can make toothpaste mix with saliva, so regular cleaning of the handle is recommended. Despite these quirks, the brush head is waterproof.

Is it worth the price?

The iO Series 9 is not a budget toothbrush—it’s positioned as an investment in long‑term oral health. Its AI features, solid build, and innovative pressure sensor are presented as tools that can actually change brushing habits for the better. For users who value data‑driven care and premium performance, the iO 9 offers a high‑end benchmark in dental technology.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5

The iO 9 mixes advanced technology with clear, user‑friendly features, making it a solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade from a standard electric toothbrush. Its price points it firmly in the premium segment, but for those seeking next‑generation oral care, it may be worth the extra spend.
