Shopper stabbed by irate woman in NJ parking lot following dispute over long line at Marshalls
A 25‑year‑old woman in Kearny, New Jersey, has been charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly stabbed another shopper in the parking lot of a Marshalls store. Police say the incident followed a heated argument over a long checkout line.
Amber Thompson, who was shopping at the Kearny Marshalls, reportedly threatened the victim while they waited in line. When the woman and her family left the store, Thompson supposedly left the store carrying a knife she had just purchased. Police later found the blade in the store’s bathroom, on a baby‑changing station.
According to law enforcement, Thompson then returned to the parking lot and stabbed the victim multiple times. The injured shopper was taken to a nearby hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. Thompson fled the scene but was located by police moments later.
Marshalls said it takes the safety of its customers and employees seriously and praised local officers for their “swift response.” The store is cooperating with authorities as the case moves forward.
Thompson faces several charges, including aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering another person. She is held in county jail until her court appearance.
Shoppers at the store were shocked by the lack of security and grateful that no other people were harmed. A bystander told local outlets, “I think that’s pretty crazy that happened here. It’s just crazy because it never happens here.”
