Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes Affairs and chairman of Etihad Rail, stopped by several pavilions at Global Rail 2025 on the event’s second day. This massive mobility and transport exhibition, the biggest in the region, draws crowds to Abu Dhabi to spotlight the future of rail and connectivity.
Etihad Rail, the company behind the UAE’s national rail network, hosts the event under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s vice president, deputy prime minister, and chairman of the Presidential Court. It runs until October 2 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), pulling in experts and innovators from around the world.
Joining Sheikh Theyab on the tour were Sara Awadh Musallam, chairperson of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge; Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, chairman of the Department of Community Development; and Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail. They checked out displays from top players like France’s Alstom, China’s CRRC Corporation Limited, Japan’s Hitachi Rail, the U.S.’s Progress Rail, Germany’s Siemens, and the Spanish-Egyptian team of Talgo and Hassan Allam.
Sheikh Theyab raved about the innovative ideas and projects on show. He highlighted how these companies drive the global transport sector forward through strong partnerships and turn bold concepts into real-world results. He also pointed out how Global Rail 2025 cements the UAE’s spot as a key hub for worldwide talks on advancing mobility.
Etihad Rail sealed several deals at the event to ramp up collaboration in transport. Partners include the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Masdar, VIA and United Trans, and Yango, all aiming to boost the sector’s growth.
On day two, Sheikh Theyab handed out awards to key supporters and sponsors of Global Rail 2025. He honored their dedication to pushing transport innovation and making the event a hit. Winners included the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Abu Dhabi Project and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC), Abu Dhabi Transport, Alstom, DP World, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Emirates NBD, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Hill International, International Union of Railways, Jacobs, and Khatib & Alami.
The action didn’t stop there. The Global Rail Youth Hackathon kicked off, giving more than 200 students and recent grads a shot at designing fresh solutions for UAE rail and infrastructure. Over two days, they’ll compete for cash prizes in a high-energy mix of creativity and problem-solving.
Meanwhile, the Global Rail Strategic and Technical Conference kept rolling with lively panel talks, real-world case studies, and deep dives into projects. Topics ranged from high-speed rail delivery and sustainable financing to AI in transport, policy challenges, and smart city planning.
Under the banner of “Driving the Future of Transport and Enhancing Global Connectivity,” Global Rail 2025 stands out as a prime spot for shaping tomorrow’s mobility. It spotlights Abu Dhabi’s rising role as a global center for sustainable and smart transport solutions, bringing big ideas to life.
