Amid demand for SIR debate, Kiren Rijiju seeks Oppn support for smooth Winter Session

New Delhi – Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is ready to tackle any issues, in light of a proposal to discuss the SIR during a meeting of all‑party floor leaders. He added that this openness comes as Parliament begins its Winter Session on Monday.

“Suggestions given by the floor leaders will be considered and presented to the Business Advisory Committees. Which matter will be discussed in the House is part of a laid down procedure,” Rijiju said as the session was set to start.

During the all‑party session, he clarified that no one had announced plans to disrupt Parliament. “Some leaders said they might create a ruckus in the House over SIR. We’re ready to listen to the Opposition… Parliament belongs to everyone, to the country. There’s a way to discuss every issue in Parliament. There are rules, there are traditions,” he added.

The minister emphasized that while political disagreement is a normal feature of parliamentary democracy, it is possible to voice concerns and debate matters without derailing House proceedings, maintaining a productive session.

Earlier, he praised the meeting, calling it very productive and thanking all the floor leaders for their participation and for presenting their parties’ viewpoints. “On behalf of our government, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha J.P. Nadda, my ministerial colleagues and I took notes of all the suggestions,” Rijiju noted.

The Winter Session will run from December 1 to December 19. A day before the session opened, a series of strategic meetings took place on Sunday, where floor leaders from all parties spent nearly two hours discussing issues. Rijiju said that 50 leaders from 36 political parties were present.

“On behalf of the government, I wish to assure the Opposition parties that we will do our best and offer cooperation for the smooth functioning of the Parliament,” he assured. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister also urged Opposition leaders to work together with the government for a successful session.
