Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the launch of new GST reforms on Monday, calling them a game-changer for India’s economy. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, these next-generation GST changes aim to spark prosperity, growth, and fresh opportunities for everyday citizens.
In a post on X, Dhami shared his excitement: “Respected Prime Minister Ji, the Next Generation GST Reforms under your guidance represent a historic step that will bring prosperity, growth, and opportunities to our nation’s people.” He highlighted how the timing during Navratri makes this even more special, promising inclusive growth for the middle class and small business owners while boosting quality of life for all.
Dhami joined the fun at the GST Bachat Utsav, or GST Savings Festival, in Dehradun’s Premnagar area. The event focused on raising awareness about the nationwide drop in GST rates and how it saves money for consumers. He strolled through the local market, chatting with traders about the new GST slabs, gathering their feedback, and encouraging them to spread the word on these GST rate reductions.
At various shops, Dhami talked directly with shopkeepers and pushed for more support of indigenous products. “By choosing local goods, we empower Indian citizens and build a stronger national economy,” he said. He urged everyone to shop for homegrown items, explaining that it would supercharge cottage industries and small businesses, ultimately strengthening Uttarakhand and India’s economy.
Dhami noted that events like the GST Savings Festival create real connections with people, letting them feel the direct impact of government policies on their lives.
These reforms stem from decisions by the GST Council earlier this month. On September 3, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced cuts to the 12% and 28% GST slabs after chairing a key meeting. A new 40% slab targets luxury and sin goods, such as tobacco, pan masala, cigarettes, bidis, aerated sugary drinks, high-end vehicles, motorcycles over 350cc, yachts, and helicopters.
