Shah Rukh Khan honoured with National Film Award for Best Actor, his first in three-decade-long career

After more than three decades ruling Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has finally snagged his first National Film Award for Best Actor. The superstar received the honor from President Droupadi Murmu during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Khan earned the award for his powerful performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan, directed by Atlee and released in September last year. Dressed in a sharp black suit, the 59-year-old actor beamed with joy at the event, with his manager Pooja Dadlani by his side. He even flew back from overseas shoots just to attend.

The winners got announced back in August, and fans went wild when Shah Rukh Khan’s name popped up as Best Actor in a Leading Role. Right after, SRK shared an emotional video on social media, thanking everyone from his fans and family to the jury and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

“Thank you for honoring me with the National Award,” he said in Hindi and English. “I’m overwhelmed with love, gratitude, pride, and humility. This is a moment I’ll cherish forever.” He gave special shoutouts to his Jawan team for putting up with his quirks and making him shine, calling their hard work the real reason behind the win.

SRK also got heartfelt about his family. “My wife and kids have given me endless love, treating me like the kid in the house even when my cinema obsession pulls me away. They support me with a smile,” he shared.

Jawan marked Shah Rukh Khan’s epic comeback in 2023, where he tackled a dual role packed with action, drama, and raw emotion. The movie smashed box office records and connected deeply with audiences across India.

Now, eyes are on his next project, King, where Shah Rukh Khan teams up with his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time on screen. Deepika Padukone joins them too, making it their sixth movie together. The duo first lit up screens in Om Shanti Om back in 2007, followed by hits like Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan, and Jawan.

Deepika recently hyped up fans on Instagram with a candid photo from King’s first day of shooting, holding SRK’s hand. “The first lesson he taught me almost 18 years ago on Om Shanti Om was that the joy of making a movie and the people you create it with matter way more than box office success,” she wrote. “I’ve lived by that ever since, and that’s why we’re back for our sixth film. #King #Day1.”

Bollywood fans can’t wait to see what Shah Rukh Khan brings next after this well-deserved National Film Award triumph.
