Assam Cricket Association suspends four players for corrupt practice, illegal approach to SMAT 2025 players

On December 12 in Guwahati, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) announced that it has suspended four former state players with immediate effect. The decision comes after allegations surfaced that these men had engaged in corrupt conduct and tried to sway current Assam squad members.
The players in question—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri—are accused of attempting to influence teammates who took part in the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8.
Following the accusations, the BCCI’s Anti‑Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) opened an inquiry. The ACA has also moved to file criminal charges.
In a release, the ACA said:
“Prima facie, there appears to be involvement of the aforementioned four players in serious misconduct, affecting the integrity of the sport,”
“The players were suspended to curtail any scope of further deterioration of the situation.”
During the suspension period, the men are barred from any Assam Cricket Association‑run tournament or match at the state or district level, and from any cricket‑related role such as match referee, coach or umpire. The ban remains in place until the investigation is finished and a final decision is made.
The association ordered all district bodies to enforce the suspension and to notify clubs and academies under their control of the required action.
The ACA also reiterated its pledge to protect the sport’s integrity and to maintain the highest standards of transparency, discipline and ethics.
On the same day, the ACA filed an FIR with the Guwahati Crime Branch against the four players.
