US Chief Negotiator arriving in New Delhi to resume trade talks, govt set to finalise Export Promotion Mission

India-US Trade Talks Heat Up: Key Negotiator Arrives in Delhi
As India and the US warm up their ties, American trade chief Brendan Lynch lands in New Delhi tonight. The two countries kick off fresh trade negotiations tomorrow, aiming to boost their partnership amid global uncertainties.
Commerce Ministry insiders say talks are buzzing at multiple levels. With Lynch’s visit, both sides will map out the next steps. "Everyone’s approaching these trade issues with a positive vibe," one government source shared.
This isn’t the start of the sixth round of bilateral trade agreement (BTA) discussions—those got pushed back from August 25. Instead, it’s about building on ongoing chats. The big goal? Double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, from the current $191 billion. Teams will tackle all pending issues, including some diplomatic ones where India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is involved.
Local factors have shifted fast lately, thanks to US tariff worries and how competitive exports stack up against other nations. But India isn’t sitting idle. The government eyes a massive Rs 25,000 crore support package for exporters through the new Export Promotion Mission (EPM), rolled out in the recent Budget for the next five years.
The Commerce Ministry has forwarded the plan to the Finance Ministry’s expenditure finance committee. Sources hint the EPM scheme could get an even bigger budget boost before heading to the Cabinet for final nod—inter-ministerial talks are already done. Designed to be flexible and quick to adapt, this initiative will shield Indian exporters from tariff shocks and global trade ups and downs.
With stronger US-India trade ties on the horizon, these moves could give a real edge to India’s export game. Stay tuned for updates on how these negotiations pan out.
