Congress MP Tariq Anwar Carried on Villagers’ Shoulders During Flood Inspection in Bihar – Video Goes Viral
A funny yet controversial video of Congress MP Tariq Anwar from Katihar has taken social media by storm. The clip shows the senior leader getting a shoulder ride from locals to dodge muddy paths while checking flood and erosion damage in Bihar’s Barari and Manihari areas. This incident in Katihar district is sparking debates just weeks before the Bihar Assembly elections.
The video comes from Dhuriahi Panchayat, where Anwar visited erosion-hit villages like Shivnagar and Sonakhal. Muddy and waterlogged roads made walking tough, so villagers stepped in to carry him on their shoulders. Supporters held on tight to make sure he stayed safe and didn’t slip.
Tariq Anwar quickly addressed the buzz around the video. "I went to inspect the erosion spots," he explained. "Mud and water blocked the way, and locals insisted on carrying me to the site. I didn’t want to say no to their help." His words aim to calm things down, but not everyone’s buying it.
The footage has drawn sharp criticism online and from political rivals. Many question why an elected leader like Anwar needs locals to carry him during a disaster visit. It paints a picture of being out of touch, especially in flood-affected Bihar where people struggle daily.
JD(U) MLC and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar didn’t hold back. He called the viral video "sad and embarrassing" for a veteran MP like Anwar. "You’ve got a long career in Parliament, but this sends the wrong signal," Kumar said. "Workers and the public aren’t there to be your burden. You went to wipe away tears, not get a shoulder ride."
Kumar also took a dig at Congress’s past record. "Back in your government’s time, Bihar had no proper disaster management policy," he pointed out. "Things changed after Nitish Kumar took charge – now relief materials reach everyone." He warned that in the social media era, every move gets blown up. "Such stunts just make you a laughingstock," he added.
With Bihar elections around the corner, this "shoulder ride" mishap is turning into a big political weapon. NDA leaders are using it to slam Congress and the Grand Alliance, saying they’re disconnected from real ground issues like floods and erosion in Katihar. Social media is amplifying every detail, making small moments into major flashpoints.
As Bihar faces ongoing flood challenges, incidents like this highlight the high stakes in the state’s politics. Will this viral video hurt Anwar’s image, or is it just election-time drama? Stay tuned as more unfolds in the lead-up to the polls.
