World leaders extend birthday wishes to PM Modi, hail him as voice of Global South

World leaders from across the globe showered Prime Minister Narendra Modi with warm birthday wishes on his 75th birthday, praising his strong leadership and role as a key voice for the Global South. These heartfelt messages highlighted Modi’s global impact and the growing ties between India and other nations.
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon kicked off the greetings with a friendly video message. “Kia ora, namaskar, my good friend Prime Minister Modi,” he said, congratulating Modi on the milestone. Luxon reflected on Modi’s vision to make India a developed nation by 2047 and shared his excitement about deeper India-New Zealand cooperation. “I’m really excited about New Zealand partnering more with India to achieve that vision,” he added, hoping to host Modi soon after his own warm visit to India in March. He wrapped up with, “I wish you a very, very happy birthday.”
Guyana President Irfaan Ali sent a touching video, wishing Modi health, strength, and blessings. “Your leadership has been nothing short of transformative,” Ali said, calling Modi a resolute champion for the Global South. He praised how Modi amplifies unheard voices of developing nations and ties their future to the world’s. Under Modi’s guidance, India-Guyana relations have soared to new heights, filled with friendship and mutual respect. Ali looked forward to even stronger partnerships and ended with, “Happy 75th birthday, Prime Minister. You’re a blessing to humanity.”
Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit hailed Modi as a “global leader, statesman, and leading voice of the Global South.” In his message, Skerrit recalled their meeting at the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana last year, where Dominica honored Modi with its highest award for his support during the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to boost bilateral ties. “The world needs Prime Minister Modi’s leadership now more than ever,” he said, vowing to enhance India-Dominica relations.
European Council President Antonio Costa also extended birthday greetings to PM Modi, expressing hopes to strengthen the India-EU partnership.
Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, fresh from an eight-day visit to India, shared a special message. He had already wished Modi a week early during talks in Varanasi, Modi’s home constituency. “The welcome was tremendous—people lined the streets with flags,” Ramgoolam recalled, touched by the hospitality. He noted the coincidence of his father Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam’s 125th birthday on September 18 and wished Modi good health to keep leading India strongly.
Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar celebrated the deep people-to-people bonds between the two countries. She thanked Modi for his historic visit and the highest national award they bestowed on him for his contributions to Trinidad and Tobago and the region. “He’s been a statesman and a leading voice of the Global South,” she said, appreciating announcements like laptops for local students. “Happy birthday, and we look forward to seeing you soon.”
Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called Modi a “great friend” to him and Britain. “In these uncertain times, we all need good friends, and Modi Ji has always been one,” Sunak said in his video. He celebrated strengthening UK-India ties, reminiscing about the recent England-India cricket series and his 2023 G20 visit to India with his wife Akshata. As someone from a British-Indian family, Sunak said the relationship holds a special place in his heart. “Modi Ji, I wish you all the very best and look forward to seeing you soon.”
Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has known Modi for over 15 years, remembered their first meeting when Modi was Gujarat’s Chief Minister visiting Kenya. “I was impressed by his openness, sincerity, sense of duty, and humor,” Odinga said.
