Italian Shooter Danilo Sollazzo Smashes World Record at ISSF World Cup in Ningbo
In a thrilling showdown at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol stage in Ningbo, China, Italian sharpshooter Danilo Sollazzo grabbed the spotlight on day three. The 10m air rifle specialist, who finished second to India’s Rudrankksh Patil at the 2022 Cairo World Championship and fifth at the Paris Olympics, broke the men’s 10m air rifle final world record with a stunning score of 255.0. This edged out China’s reigning Olympic champion Sheng Lihao, whose previous record now falls by 0.5 points. Sheng settled for silver with 253.5, while Korea’s Park Haijun claimed bronze.
For Indian shooters, the day brought solid efforts but no breakthrough into the finals yet, according to a release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). Former world number one Divyansh Singh Panwar led the Indian charge in men’s 10m air rifle qualification, scoring 630.0 to land 19th place. Sweden’s Paris Olympics silver medalist Victor Lindgren snagged the last qualifying spot with 632.3. Other Indians like young gun Umamahesh Maddineni finished 39th with 627.7, and Niraj Kumar came in 54th with 626.1.
The action kicked off earlier with the women’s 25m pistol final, where Korea dominated. Reigning Olympic champion Yang Jin defended her Paris gold with a top performance, beating teammate and fellow Olympic gold medalist Oh Ye-jin for silver. China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan took bronze in this high-stakes event.
India’s Abhidnya Ashok Patil shone in the women’s 25m pistol qualification, firing a brilliant 295 in the second rapid-fire round to total 583 and finish ninth among medal hopefuls (11th overall). She matched Korea’s Nam Dajung and France’s Paris silver medalist Camille Jedrzejewski on that score, but Nam advanced thanks to three more inner 10-ring shots. Fellow Indians Divya TS ended 16th with 581 after a 290 in rapid-fire, while Olympian Rahi Sarnobat, a former Asian Games champion, tied her at 581 but placed 17th due to a weaker precision round earlier.
So far, China tops the ISSF World Cup Ningbo medal tally with two golds out of five. Norway, Italy, and Korea share the other wins. Excitement builds for day four’s lone final: the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions. Indian fans are pinning hopes on stars like Mehuli Ghosh, Surabhi Rapole, and Manini Kaushik to finally snag a podium spot and boost India’s shooting medal count.
