Congress won with AIMIM’s support, say BJP leaders on Jubilee Hills result

Hyderabad – A close bid for a key council seat in Jubilee Hills ended in a big win for the Congress party, but Telangana BJP leaders say the victory came only because of the All India Majlis‑e‑Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

BJP state chief N. Ramchander Rao told reporters that while the poll results show Congress as the winner, the mandate belongs to AIMIM. “We respect what people have decided, but this is not the Congress mandate. It is the AIMIM mandate,” he said.

Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said Congress captured the seat by “appeasement politics” and support from AIMIM’s muscle power. He added that the party will study the results closely and step up its campaigning in the area.

The byelection was a crushing blow for the BJP. The party’s candidate, Lankala Deepak Reddy, lost by a wide margin and even failed to keep his security deposit.

Congress’s V. Naveen Yadav took the seat, beating UP’s nearest rival, Sunitha Maganti of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), by almost 25,000 votes. Naveen tallied 98,988 votes; Sunitha received 74,259. Deepak finished third with just 17,061 votes.

Naveen’s win gave Congress 50.83 % of the votes, dropping BRS to 38.13 % and BJP to 8.76 %. The result was a personal setback for Kishan Reddy, who contested from Secunderabad in the Lok Sabha.

The campaign was spearheaded by Union Minister of State in Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and other BJP MPs from Telangana. Ramchander Rao highlighted that BJP workers in Jubilee Hills had campaigned hard, even though the area has historically favored other parties. He recalled past elections: in 2009, even when B. Dattatreya ran from Secunderabad, BJP could not win Jubilee Hills; the 2014 TDP‑BJP alliance won, while the 2018 victory went to BRS with AIMIM’s help.

Ramchander added that Naveen Yadav had previously stood as an AIMIM candidate in the same constituency.

While the BJP accepted defeat in Hyderabad, leaders celebrated their party’s success in Bihar. Kishan Reddy posted on ‘X’ that the Bihar voters gave a “historic mandate” to the NDA, rejecting the “Jungle Raj” model and trusting Modi’s government for development and governance. MoS Bandi Sanjay emphasised that the results in Bihar reinforce confidence in Modi’s leadership and the NDA’s focus on infrastructure, welfare, law and order, and growth.
