‘Weird Science’ star Kelly LeBrock gives rare life update 20 years after leaving Hollywood: ‘Bit of a recluse’
Kelly LeBrock happily reports that she’s finally “left Hollywood behind her.” Now 65, the former “Weird Science” star has kept her distance from the spotlight, choosing instead to live on a sprawling ranch in California’s Santa Ynez Valley.
When pressed by reporters, Le Brock revealed that she seldom goes out these days, describing herself as “a bit of a recluse, but I like it like that.” She’s traded flashy diamonds for gritty country life, keeping a herd of horses, cattle, dogs and chickens and tending the property largely on her own—“I have one man, one day a week that comes and helps.”
Her ranch sits behind a serene lake, a place she calls “a little gem of its own.” “I live in church,” she told the Daily Mail, adding that the surrounding countryside “is so incredible.”
Health-wise, Le Brock admitted she’s faced cancer “a couple of times,” but now feels “better than ever.” “Happy to be here,” she said, smiling at the camera.
Le Brock’s breakout role came in 1985’s John Hughes teen fantasy comedy “Weird Science,” which also featured Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell‑Smith. She later appeared in the 1990 action thriller “Hard to Kill” opposite her then‑husband, Steven Seagal, with whom she shares three children—Arissa, Annaliza and Dominic.
After the couple’s divorce in 1996, Le Brock stepped away from the film industry and settled on her ranch. She remarried retired investment banker Fred Steck in 2007, but their union ended a year later. In 2021 she told Fox News that “Hollywood wasn’t a place where I wanted to raise my children.”
“I have no interest in the attention,” she said of her highly publicized divorce, insisting, “I’m not a Hollywood girl. I want dirt in my nails, to be outdoors.” She has lived in the wilderness without television for a quarter‑of‑a‑century, raising her kids single‑handedly. “I could always go back to my career. I could never go back to my children. Some people can do both. But I already had the fame and was done with it.”
Le Brock’s experience with fame left her wounded. “Being famous just caused trauma,” she added. She also expressed discontent with social media: “It’s gotten out of control. I don’t want a part of it. I don’t have a computer. I have internet but it’s bad service. And I like it that way. I’m very happy.”
