PM Modi highlights India’s digital transformation in last decade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently celebrated India’s incredible digital journey over the last 10 years, spotlighting key initiatives like the JAM trinity (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile), UPI, GeM (government e-marketplace), and e-NAM (National Agriculture Market). Sharing an insightful article by Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh on X, PM Modi emphasized that “India’s digital decade is not just about technology, but about transformation—and the story is just beginning.”

The article paints a vivid picture of how India has sparked a digital revolution that’s changing lives from cities to remote villages. What started as smart tech moves has now reshaped the economy, governance, education, healthcare, commerce, and even farming and small businesses across the country.

This success didn’t happen by chance. The Indian government drove it through bold policies, teamwork across ministries, and a focus on growth for everyone. Ministries like Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Finance (MoF), and Agriculture led major projects, while NITI Aayog acted as the brain behind it all—pushing for innovative, people-centered solutions that scale up fast.

A game-changer was the JAM trinity rollout. It opened over 55 crore bank accounts, bringing millions into the financial fold and enabling direct benefit transfers without delays or middlemen. Take the story of a single mother in a small Odisha village: she now gets her welfare payments straight into her account, a win repeated by countless families. Backed by the Ministry of Finance, Aadhaar, and widespread mobile use, JAM set the stage for a fintech boom.

Then came UPI, the Unified Payments Interface built by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) with RBI’s support. It turned everyday transactions upside down—from sending money to a friend to powering small shops and street vendors. Now, India handles over 17 billion UPI transactions every month. Even a roadside vegetable seller can scan a QR code and get paid digitally, making cashless payments a reality for all.
