Mystery Surrounds Death of Tribal Medical Student in Malda
In a shocking turn of events, a young tribal medical student from Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital has died under mysterious circumstances in West Bengal’s Malda district. The incident has left her family devastated and police scrambling for answers.
The 25-year-old student, originally from Balurghat in South Dinajpur, passed away on Friday afternoon while she was in Malda with her fiancé, a junior doctor at Malda Medical College and Hospital. Her parents rushed to the scene from Balurghat after getting news of her serious condition, but it was too late—she was declared dead at the hospital.
Speaking to reporters and police on Saturday, the grieving mother alleged foul play. "My daughter didn’t die naturally. Her fiancé is responsible," she said tearfully. According to her, the couple had been in a long-term relationship and even got married at a temple in Puri, Odisha, recently. Things took a dark turn when the student became pregnant. "I told them to make it official, but he kept avoiding marriage. He even pressured her to get an abortion, which strained their bond," the mother revealed.
Four days before the tragedy, the student traveled to Malda to sort things out with her fiancé and checked into a hotel room in the town. But on Friday, her health suddenly worsened. The family claims the fiancé might have poisoned her. "She can’t have taken her own life. He must have given her something harmful. We demand the strictest punishment for him," the mother insisted.
English Bazar Police Station has registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the medical student’s mysterious death in Malda. The fiancé has vanished since the incident and is now on the run, with officers working hard to track him down.
Initial police findings point to a possible drug overdose as the cause. "We suspect an overdose of a specific drug, but we’ll know more once we get the full post-mortem and viscera reports," a Malda District Police officer told .
