Kohima – On Tuesday, Nagaland Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along formally unveiled the new Aerial Experience Rides – Helicopter Service at the Lerie helipad in Kohima, with Tourism Department officials in attendance.
The launch follows a partnership between a private operator and the state’s Tourism Department, aimed at enriching the visitor experience during the 10‑day Hornbill Festival. The service will offer scenic tours of Kohima, views of the Dzukou Valley, and direct flights between Kohima and Kigwema, giving tourists a unique bird’s‑eye look at the festival’s festivities.
Guests will also be able to book flights to any destination across Nagaland. Prices are set to be subsidised, encouraging participation from local residents, domestic travelers and international visitors. Officials say this collaboration could serve as a model for boosting tourism throughout the Northeast.
Bookings can be made via the Tourism Department’s social media pages, at the Kisama information desk, on its official website, or through designated contact numbers.
The helicopter fleet will operate out of Dimapur Airport, Kohima Heliport and Kigwema Heliport, ensuring easy access for visitors over the course of the festival.
Other attendees included Theja Meru, Advisor to the Nagaland Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN (Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland) and TaFMA, OSD of the Transport Department Myingthungo Ababe Ezung, Captain Amitabh, and several other Tourism Department officials.
The 26th edition of the annual “Hornbill Festival,” coinciding with Statehood Day celebrations, will run in the picturesque Naga heritage village of Kisama from December 1 to 10.
