Pakistan players to be briefed on corruption pitfalls in Bangladesh Premier League: Report

Mumbai, Dec 1 (LatestNewsX) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it will brief a group of about twelve Pakistani players who are scheduled to play in this year’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) through anti‑corruption officials. This decision comes after Bangladesh cricket recently disciplined several players for questionable conduct and as the PCB is keen to shield its men from fix‑related pressure, especially given the franchise’s history of bookie approaches in the past.

According to sources at Telecom Asia Sport, Pakistani players have frequently been targeted by gambling syndicates, with a number of them previously receiving sanctions for match‑fixing and corruption. “Pakistan Cricket Board has directed its anti‑corruption department to brief players who are due to feature in the Bangladesh Premier League later this month on how to avoid the fixing scandals, and if they are approached by anyone, they must report it to League authorities and their franchise,” the organisation told www.telecomasia.net.

The upcoming BPL season, expected to kick off on December 26, will see rising batter Khawaja Nafay and spinner Sufiyan Muqeem take the field for the Rangpur Riders. The Rajshahi Warriors will sign Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Nawaz and Jahandad Khan, while the new Noakhali Express outfit will feature fast bowler Ihsan Ullah Khan and Haider Ali. Usman Khan – wicket‑keeper batter – will represent Dhaka Capitals, and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed will join Chittagong Royals.

“We have realised the importance of saving our players from the pitfalls, more so after the Bangladesh Board’s action of keeping some players away from the League on suspicion,” officials added. In line with their anti‑corruption chief Alex Marshall’s advice, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that a few unnamed players would be barred from the auction, according to the report.

“These players were removed from the BPL auction based on the report, which is just an observation, and hence no charges were made. Neither the BCB nor the inquiry committee announced any formal allegations against the players,” the media cited in the report.

The BPL’s reputation was already marred by the 2013 scandal that saw the Dhaka Gladiators’ owner suspended for life and several players—including former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful—banned, leading to the league’s suspension in 2014. Today, suspicions linger alongside issues with player payments; last year, wicket‑keeper batter Mohammad Haris highlighted money‑related problems and consequently skipped this season’s BPL.
