Bihar Dy CM Samrat Choudhary orders major traffic overhaul, crackdown on rule violators

Patna, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) — Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Samrat Choudhary, has laid out sweeping orders to overhaul the state’s traffic management system.

During a senior‑level review meeting on Monday, he asked officials to adopt stringent, systematic measures aimed at easing congestion and ensuring the smooth flow of commuters across Bihar. Choudhary highlighted the need for a more efficient traffic workforce and ordered the creation of a dedicated Traffic Training Institute. “Scientific and modern training is essential to improve on‑ground traffic management,” he said.

He also directed an increase in the traffic police cadre and warned of serious action against repeat offenders, declaring zero tolerance for habitual violators. To curb illegal parking, he instructed that private cranes be deployed alongside departmental ones, so they can be used extensively to clear encroachments and keep urban roads unclogged.

A key part of the plan involves setting up traffic command and control centres outside Patna Junction, other major railway stations, and at busy intersections across the state. Choudhary further instructed the Panchayati Raj and Urban Development Departments to install CCTV cameras at all municipal and panchayat entry and exit points.

He stressed the importance of a wide‑sweeping traffic awareness campaign spanning schools, colleges, panchayats, and urban bodies to encourage responsible driving habits among citizens. The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that delivering a safe, organised, and efficient traffic system is a top priority for the government, and that stringent measures will be enforced at every level to tackle congestion and boost road safety.

Since assuming the role of Home Minister after the election, Samrat Choudhary has been in “action mode,” holding regular meetings with department officers to strengthen law and order and improve traffic management throughout Bihar.
