In New Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to launch and lay the foundation stones for a series of projects worth more than 1,816 crore rupees on Thursday. The plan is part of a “historic mission” to clean up the Yamuna River and tackle the city’s long‑standing water and sewerage problems.
The projects focus on major upgrades to Delhi’s water and wastewater systems. Seventy‑percent of the city’s ground‑level water supply will be improved, while a network of 22 new sewage‑treatment plants (STPs) will be built or upgraded. These STPs will treat raw sewage before it reaches the Yamuna, a critical step to stop polluted runoff from further contaminating the river.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, speaking through the Chief Minister’s Office, said cleaning the Yamuna is a top priority for Delhi. “We will make the Yamuna pollution‑free, clean, and revitalised,” she said, noting the central government’s full backing. Gupta also urged citizens to take an active role in the river‑cleaning drive, saying that public cooperation is essential for lasting success.
The BJP’s promises from its February Assembly election manifesto—including a clean Yamuna—are at the heart of this initiative. These investments aim to improve water quality, protect public health, and restore the river’s ecological balance, offering a brighter future for residents along its banks.
