NZ spinner Eden Carson to undergo surgery, set to miss Women’s T20 WC title defence

New Delhi, Dec 11 ( LatestNewsX ) – Off-spinner Eden Carson from New Zealand will have surgery on her right elbow Thursday, and she’s expected to spend about six months rehabbing before she can play competitive cricket again. Because of the recovery period, she’ll miss the remainder of the home summer and New Zealand’s defence of the title at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Carson ruptured a ligament in her elbow during the team’s Dubai training camp ahead of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, yet she carried on playing throughout the tournament. With the injury affecting her bowling arm, head coach Ben Sawyer said the decision to operate now was the safest choice for Eden’s long‑term prospects. “We’re all really gutted for Eden. The team has a big six months ahead, and I know how difficult it was for her to make the decision to go through with the surgery now, but I fully support it. It’ll obviously be a huge loss for the team not having Eden available, especially for the T20 World Cup, where she played a big role for us last year,” Sawyer said in a statement released by New Zealand Cricket ( NZC ). He added, “At just 24 years old, she’s still got a long career ahead, so it’s important we look forward and prioritise getting her back on the park and fully fit.” Carson wrapped up the October 2024 T20 World Cup, picking up nine wickets in six innings at an economy rate of 6.39. New Zealand’s next international fixtures come against Zimbabwe at home in February and March 2026, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs at venues in Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin. – LatestNewsX, vi/bc
