46 lakhs devotees visited Uttarakhand this year, 16 lakh Kedarnath: CM Dhami on Char Dham Yatra

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, said on Friday that the second phase of the Char Dham Yatra is moving forward smoothly, even after this year’s rough weather. He highlighted that more than 4.6 million pilgrims have already visited the state, with 1.6 million already seeing Lord Shiva at Kedarnath.

“The Yatra started on April 30 when the gates at Gangotri and Yamunotri opened,” Dhami told reporters in Dehradun. “Kedarnath followed on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4.” He added that the country’s biggest pilgrimage route is still on track despite the monsoon‑season floods and landslides that halted travel to Gangotri and Yamunotri for a brief period.

Heavy rains shredded roads and damaged the Dharali stop‑over on the way to Gangotri. The state’s teams worked around the clock to clear the routes and tighten safety checks. “We have reopened Gangotri and Yamunotri with strict safety measures,” Dhami said. “We urge every pilgrim to stay alert and avoid travel during bad weather.”

The chief minister ordered that district officials cover all safety and supply points along the pilgrimage routes. Emergency crews remain on high alert for any sudden incidents, and relief services will be ready to act immediately.

With a significant number of devotees still expected to arrive, Dewan and Dhami remain optimistic. “I foresee a large turnout in the coming days, and we’re doing everything we can to keep the journey safe and peaceful,” he said.

The Char Dham Yatra, a major spiritual trek across Uttarakhand’s six Hindu shrines, continues to be a top destination for faith‑based travel. This year’s 46 lakh pilgrim count and the 16 lakh visitors to Kedarnath underline the event’s enduring importance.
