‘My thoughts with those who lost loved ones’: PM Modi on Saudi bus accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his sorrow over the deadly bus crash in Saudi Arabia that took the lives of several Indian Umrah pilgrims. The incident happened early Monday in Medina when a passenger bus collided with a diesel tanker, according to the Indian mission in Jeddah.

On X, Modi wrote, “Deeply saddened by the accident in Medinah involving Indian nationals. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured.” He added that the Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are “providing all possible assistance” and keep close contact with Saudi authorities.

The Indian Consulate General in Jeddah is running a 24‑hour control room and has posted helpline numbers for families seeking help. Meanwhile, Telangana’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has also expressed condolences and opened a control room in Hyderabad to support victims’ families.

Initial reports, though not yet confirmed, say most pilgrims were from Hyderabad. The bus was traveling from Mecca to Medina, and passengers were reportedly asleep when the crash occurred. The impact was so forceful that locals and rescue teams rushed to the scene to treat the severely injured. The exact death toll remains unverified, and authorities are still compiling the facts.
