Jannik Sinner powered through a tough challenge to reach the China Open semifinals, stunning Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on Monday in Beijing.
The world number two from Italy took control early, dominating the first set. But the second set turned intense—Sinner fell behind 4-5 after Marozsan broke his serve. Undeterred, he fired back with brilliant tennis, reeling off the final three games to seal the win and set up a clash with Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
“I started strong in the first set, and we both raised our games in the second,” Sinner said on the ATP website. He admitted missing key chances at 4-3 but praised Marozsan’s high level. “When he served for the set, a few unforced errors gave me the opening. It’s mental too—how you handle those big moments. I fought hard, saved some tough service games from 0-30, and I’m glad it paid off today.”
This marks Sinner’s third semifinal run in Beijing, where he claimed the title in 2023. De Minaur, ranked in the top 10, advanced when his quarterfinal opponent, Jakub Mensik, retired injured while down 1-4 in the first set.
Sinner holds a flawless 10-0 edge over De Minaur, making this matchup one to watch. The Italian sits second in the ATP Live Race to Turin and has already locked in his spot at the season-ending ATP Finals. He’s been on fire this year, hitting the last four in seven of his past eight tournaments. Tennis fans can’t wait for this semifinal showdown at the China Open.
