Delhi: State election commission writes to DEOs, ROs for bypolls in 12 MCD wards

Delhi’s State Election Commission (SEC) has issued new rules for the upcoming by‑elections in 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) wards. The seats became vacant after one councillor was elected to Parliament and 11 more moved on to become members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Key points from the SEC directive:

* The electoral rolls used for the by‑elections come from the Delhi Assembly constituencies that cover the 12 wards. The rolls are current as of January 1, 2025.

* Each Returning Officer (RO) must prepare and verify a draft list of polling stations following the ward delimitation order from October 17, 2022. The final lists will go to the Election Commission for approval and printing by October 13.

* ROs can submit objections or suggestions until 3 p.m. on October 11. Any objections must be resolved before the final posting of polling stations.

* Polling stations must be on the ground floor within the ward. The exact room number and building details must be listed to avoid confusion among voters. Each station should serve no more than 1,500 voters.

The last full MCD elections were in 2022 and the next will be in 2027. Citizens in these 12 wards should keep an eye on the new polling station schedules and ensure they are ready to vote when the by‑polls start.
