MP: Free food grains worth Rs 19,935 cr distributed under PM-GKAY in two years

Khajuraho, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) The last two years have seen over 5.25 crore people receiving 66.37 lakh metric tonnes of free food grains valued at Rs 19,935 crore through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh.

On Monday, officials announced that the state settled Rs 29,558.40 crore as Minimum Support Price, plus Rs 1,965 crore as bonuses for wheat growers during the Rabi marketing periods of 2024‑25 and 2025‑26.

These figures were presented in a review of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department’s two‑year performance under the BJP administration.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav convened a comprehensive departmental review, slated to wrap up on Tuesday, after which the Council of Ministers will set fresh objectives for the coming three years at a meeting in Khajuraho.

According to officials, the scrutiny focused on the public distribution network, sourcing methods, tech upgrades and plans for Simhastha 2028.

CM Yadav emphasized that those entitled to food grains should receive the assistance promptly and without hitches.

He underscored that the well‑being of low‑income households, workers, and agriculturalists remains paramount.

Officials revealed that an extensive e‑KYC and proper targeting drive was launched, and following step‑by‑step verification, over 34 lakh people who were ineligible were removed from the list.

Consequently, roughly 14 lakh individuals on the waiting list received fresh eligibility documents and are now getting the promised food grains.

In a similar vein, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana delivered 616.97 lakh LPG refills to women over the last two years, disbursing a subsidy of Rs 911.32 crore.

“In the last two years, the department has taken several innovative steps, including SMS alerts at every stage of stock movement and distribution so that beneficiaries are informed when ration reaches and is issued from fair price shops,” the government said.
