Trump declares ‘Antifa’ a ‘major terrorist organisation’ days after Charlie Kirk assassination

US President Donald Trump has taken a bold step by officially labeling Antifa as a “major terrorist organization.” This announcement comes just days after the tragic killing of Charlie Kirk, a key right-wing activist and close Trump ally. Trump shared the news on his Truth Social platform, calling Antifa a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster.” He also vowed to push for a thorough investigation into anyone funding the group, following strict legal guidelines.
In his post, Trump wrote: “I am pleased to inform our many USA Patriots that I am designating Antifa… as a major terrorist organisation. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding Antifa be thoroughly investigated… Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump didn’t spell out exactly how his administration plans to define or target Antifa, a loose left-leaning movement without a clear leader or central structure. But he’s been vocal lately about blaming the political left for the surge in US violence. Speaking to Fox News last week, Trump said: “I’ll tell you something that’s going to get me in trouble, but I couldn’t care less. The radicals on the right oftentimes are radical because they don’t want to see crime. The radicals on the left are the problem, and they’re vicious and they’re horrible and they’re politically savvy.”
The move follows the shocking murder of Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down on September 10 during a campus event at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old conservative commentator was shot in the neck while speaking and died soon after at the hospital. Kirk founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA) back in 2012 at just 18 years old. From its base in Arizona, he grew it into the biggest conservative student group in the US, with over 800 chapters on college campuses nationwide.
TPUSA became a game-changer for young conservatives, especially during the 2024 election. The organization rallied voters and gave a huge boost to Trump’s re-election bid.
Now, the case against Kirk’s accused killer is heating up. On Tuesday, Utah prosecutors charged Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder and six other counts. They’re pushing for the death penalty. According to court documents, Robinson’s mother told investigators he’d shifted left politically over the past year, supporting gay and trans rights. She also mentioned he started dating his roommate, a biological male transitioning to female.
This designation of Antifa as a terrorist group could spark big debates on political violence in America. As tensions rise between left and right, many are watching how Trump’s administration follows through. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
