Delhi Police Special Cell busts arms syndicate; finds illegal cartridge manufacturing factory in Moradabad

Delhi Police’s Special Cell has busted a major interstate arms and ammunition syndicate, uncovering an illegal cartridge factory in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. This crackdown led to the arrest of three key players and a huge haul of weapons and ammo, dealing a big blow to the illegal arms trade in the Delhi-NCR region.

The team, led by Inspector Sunil Teotia and overseen by ACP Kailash Bisht, nabbed Fazil, 50; Jameer, 57; and Illiyas, 65—all from Uttar Pradesh—after a tip-off on September 22 about suspicious arms movement. Officers seized two semi-automatic pistols, five single-shot pistols, and 210 live .315 bore cartridges from the suspects.

During questioning, Illiyas spilled details about a secret ammunition manufacturing setup right near his home. With help from local Moradabad police, the team raided the spot and found a lathe machine, grinding machine, cartridge-making tools, live and empty cartridges, bullet leads, gunpowder, and other damning gear.

The factory raid turned up even more: 257 empty cartridges, 354 bullet leads, 350 empty shells, gunpowder, 20 solid brass rods, brass scrap, and extra manufacturing equipment. Police say this syndicate had been fueling the illegal arms supply across Delhi-NCR for years.

Illiyas comes from a family of brass utensil makers and picked up ammo-making skills early in life. He’s been deep in the illegal trade for about 20 years and even got arrested before but jumped right back in. Jameer, who quit school young to help his family, linked up with Illiyas around five or six years ago and started supplying weapons and cartridges.

This operation shows how Delhi Police keeps pushing hard against criminal networks peddling illegal firearms and ammunition in the region.
