11 policemen suspended over ‘nexus’ with drug peddlers in Bengaluru

Shocking Bengaluru Drug Bust: 11 Cops Suspended for Protecting Peddlers
In a major blow to law enforcement in Bengaluru, authorities have suspended 11 police officers, including a police inspector, for allegedly teaming up with drug peddlers. This stunning development came to light on Saturday, as officials launched a departmental inquiry into the corruption charges.
The suspended cops, from Chamarajpet and JJ Nagar police stations, include a police inspector, head constable, assistant sub-inspector, and several constables. Police say these officers worked hand-in-glove with a gang selling sedative tablets like Tidal, which require a doctor’s prescription and aren’t meant for open sale.
Here’s how the Bengaluru drug racket unraveled. On August 22, RR Nagar Police caught six peddlers red-handed—Salman, Nayaz Ullah, Nayaz Khan, and Taher Patel among them—while they sold narcotic tablets to students and young workers. Officers seized 1,000 tablets from the group during the bust.
As the investigation deepened, shocking details emerged. Police checked the peddlers’ mobile phones and discovered regular chats, audio messages, and talks about money transfers with the accused officers. It turns out the cops were collecting protection money—between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh every month—to let the gang operate freely. Even worse, the officers partied with the peddlers, showing a deep nexus.
The drug peddling network thrived in west Bengaluru areas like Chamarajpet, JJ Nagar, and RR Nagar for over a year, targeting vulnerable young people with these addictive sedatives.
ACP Kengeri Gate Bharath Reddy first flagged the issue after a thorough probe and reported it to DCP West. The case then moved to Vijayanagar ACP Chandan for a detailed investigation. Bengaluru police are now cracking down hard on such corruption to restore trust.
This Bengaluru police suspension highlights the growing fight against drug peddling and officer misconduct in the city. Stay tuned for updates on the inquiry.
