Number of UK companies in India up 19 pc in 2025, revenues reach Rs 5.7 trillion

According to a Wednesday release, 794 UK‑owned or –controlled firms are now active in India, a rise of 19 % over the 667 they had in 2023. Those companies collectively generate a turnover of roughly ₹5.693 trillion and employ 552,902 people.
Grant Thornton Bharat and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) pointed out that 146 of these businesses qualify as high‑performers, each earning more than ₹500 million a year, growing at least 10 % year‑on‑year, and having filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for at least two consecutive years.
The Growth Tracker data for this year shows an average expansion of 49 %, underscoring steady growth across a diverse mix of sectors.
“The India–UK corridor is entering a pivotal phase of scale, innovation and partnership. With 794 UK companies now operating in India and strong representation in high‑growth sectors, the findings reflect deepening economic engagement,” said Pallavi Bakhru, Partner and Head of the India‑UK Corridor at Grant Thornton Bharat.
She added that the India–UK free trade agreement will open doors in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital trade and emerging technologies, boosting jobs and sustainability for both economies.
Business services contributed the highest share to average growth at 19 %, followed by industrial products (18 %), financial services (14 %), technology (12 %) and energy and natural resources (11 %).
Maharashtra and the Delhi‑NCR region remain the leading hubs, together hosting 67 % of the high‑performing firms.
The report also notes that 58 % of UK‑run enterprises in India are micro, small or medium‑sized businesses.
“We could reduce duplication, cut costs and increase MSME participation by harmonising regulatory frameworks in healthcare and digital technologies,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII.
India’s role in the Global Capability Centres (GCCs) sector has grown, with the segment generating $64.6 billion in 2024 and hosting more than 90 UK‑headquartered GCCs that employ over 100,000 professionals.
