Ganesh visarjan violence: Action will be taken against those responsible, says K’taka CM Siddaramaiah

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Vows Strict Action on Maddur Ganesh Visarjan Violence

Bengaluru’s political scene heated up on Tuesday as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the recent violence during the Ganesh visarjan in Maddur. He promised tough legal measures against anyone involved in the clashes, no matter their caste or religion. "We won’t spare wrongdoers," the CM said firmly while speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha.

So far, police have arrested 21 people linked to the Maddur Ganesh visarjan violence. The incident has sparked widespread concern about law and order in Karnataka, drawing sharp reactions from both the ruling Congress and opposition BJP.

The BJP isn’t backing down. They’ve planned a ‘padyatra’ foot march to Maddur to protest the violence and even called for a bandh or shutdown in the area. CM Siddaramaiah hit back, accusing the BJP of stirring unrest. "Their main goal seems to be creating chaos in society," he remarked. He pointed to a recent BJP event called ‘Chamundi Betta Chalo’ in Mysuru, where RSS members from districts like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Chamarajanagar joined in. Police denied permission for that program because it risked more trouble, he added.

When the BJP complained to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about deteriorating law and order in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah kept it straightforward. "Maintaining peace is our state government’s job, and we’re handling it," he said. He turned the tables on the BJP, questioning their silence during the national farmers’ protests where many lost lives. "Where were they then? And what about the ongoing violence in Manipur? Even the Prime Minister hasn’t visited there despite the chaos," the CM questioned, highlighting what he sees as selective outrage.

On a brighter note, the CM attended a key meeting with ruling party members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) on Tuesday. He’s pushing for more development funds to boost Karnataka’s growth. Just like the Rs 8,000 crore already allocated for MLAs’ constituencies across districts, he wants similar support for MLCs. "We’ve assured them that MLCs’ areas will get a fair share from this budget," Siddaramaiah shared. A follow-up meeting with Bengaluru Urban MLAs is set for Wednesday to discuss these Karnataka development projects.

As tensions simmer over the Maddur violence case, all eyes are on how the Karnataka government balances strict enforcement with community harmony. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story.
