Kolkata, Nov 29 – The Trinamool Congress urged Saturday that the Election Commission of India release the complete script of its November 28 meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at the Delhi headquarters, where a ten‑member parliamentary delegation of the party convened.
Derek O’ Brien, who leads the delegation and heads the Trinamool Congress’s Rajya Sabha group, said the discussion with the CEC lasted roughly 55 minutes and that everyone should be able to see the full record for the sake of openness.
Abhishek Banerjee, the party’s general secretary and a Lok Sabha MP, bared concerns on Friday that the ECI was misleading the public by selectively leaking the delegation’s rebuttal of worries raised about the Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal. He claimed the party possessed digital proof that the commission’s narrative had been twisted through planted or fabricated leaks, warning that the ECI should rethink its combative posture toward West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress.
Following the meeting, Trinamool leaders pressed again for the transcript’s release.
O’ Brien also questioned why the CEC did not call an official press briefing to explain Friday’s proceedings. “We have nothing to hide. If the ECI has nothing to hide, it should take its time and then hold a proper press briefing,” he remarked.
He criticized the commission’s choice to appoint central observers to oversee the state’s election process, saying, “The decision was taken without consulting the state government. ECI is crossing all its limits.”
