‘Attacks on Hindus in B’desh unacceptable’: Ajmer Dargah successor Chishty says PM Modi’s honours in Muslim nations reflect India’s ethos of coexistence

Jaipur, Dec. 27 (IANS) – Ajmer Dargah’s chief, Syed Naseruddin Chishty, condemned the recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh as “unacceptable” on Saturday. He warned that attacks on people simply because of their religion run counter to Islam’s core teachings of peace, humanity and justice.

Observing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received high civil honors from several Muslim‑majority countries, Chishty said that these accolades highlight India’s growing global influence and serve as a source of national pride. “Whenever the Prime Minister is honoured abroad, it symbolises respect for the whole country,” he added.

He described the reports of sectarian violence in Bangladesh as deeply troubling and stressed that no justification exists for murdering innocents or targeting any community. “Islam teaches humanity, peace and justice. Targeting any minority community for any reason is completely wrong. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety and security of every citizen, irrespective of religion or community,” Chishty asserted.

Chishty called on the Bangladeshi authorities to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete actions to protect all citizens. He warned that using Bangladesh to stir anti‑Indian sentiment could threaten peace and brotherhood throughout the region.

Highlighting India’s long history of religious harmony, Chishty noted that faith‑based events in India have always helped weave a shared cultural tapestry. “This Ganga‑Jamuni culture has always been India’s identity and continues to strengthen social harmony,” he remarked.

He concluded by praising India’s steady progress and growing recognition on the world stage. “This reflects India’s commitment to mutual brotherhood and respect for all religions, which is why the world looks at India with admiration,” Chishty said.
