Kolkata police arrested a local YouTuber and his minor son on Sunday after a shocking rape case in Basirhat, North 24 Parganas. The charges came after a teenage girl accused them of blackmailing her with private photos and videos taken while they pretended to film “reels” for social media.
The victim, a minor, said she was lured into the scheme several months ago. The YouTuber, Arabinda Mondal of Mohanpur, called her and promised to create content. She went to different locations with him and his son on the pretext of filming. Although the videos were made, the duo also took objectionable pictures and videos of the girl without permission.
Later, they threatened her: “If you tell anyone, we’ll publish the photos and videos online.” Under that pressure, the girl’s family remained silent. The police learned the story when the girl finally told her father on Friday. The boy’s father is a police officer, and the case was reported to the Haroa police station.
After receiving the complaint, senior officers at Basirhat police began an investigation. On Sunday morning, they apprehended Arabinda Mondal and the boy. Both were taken to the Sub‑divisional Court in Basirhat. The police said the arrest was based on the girl’s testimony about the abduction, blackmail, and repeated rape.
The case has drawn attention because the accused are familiar to the victim’s family, who never raised concerns. It also highlights the growing problem of online blackmail and sexual exploitation in the region. Kolkata police continue to probe the incident to secure the evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
