Congress MP Tariq Anwar has sparked a lively debate on India’s tricky spot in international cricket, especially when it comes to facing Pakistan. Speaking in New Delhi on September 13, Anwar pointed out that boycotting just one country in big tournaments like the Asia Cup isn’t practical. “It’s up to the Government of India to decide if they want to skip events like the Asia Cup,” he told . “But in international sports, you can’t pick and choose opponents—you have to play against all teams.”
Anwar stressed that pulling out of any tournament where Pakistan participates would be a huge call. This comes right before the high-stakes India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match on September 14 in Dubai, which has fans and politicians buzzing.
Adding fuel to the fire, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray questioned why India is even playing. “Our Prime Minister said blood and water can’t flow together, so how can blood and cricket mix?” Thackeray asked reporters. He slammed the decision as “business in patriotism,” hinting it’s all about the money from these matches. “They’re playing tomorrow just to grab the cash,” he added, calling out the mix of war tensions and cricket.
On the other side, BJP MP Anurag Thakur defended India’s stance. He explained that joining multinational events run by the ACC or ICC is a must for countries. But he made it clear: “India won’t play bilateral series with Pakistan until terrorist attacks on our soil stop.” Thakur emphasized that while big tournaments are non-negotiable, one-on-one games with Pakistan are off the table for now.
As the buzz builds around the India-Pakistan cricket clash, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team is in full prep mode. They’re sweating it out in Dubai, honing skills and leaving no detail unchecked for the big Asia Cup showdown. With tensions high and opinions divided, all eyes are on how this iconic rivalry unfolds on the field.
