Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra joined senior party leaders on Monday to check on flood-hit spots in Bidar, where heavy rains and water releases from Maharashtra reservoirs have left farmers in tough times.
Talking to , Vijayendra explained that he traveled with Leader of Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, key MLAs, and former minister Prabhu Chauhan to see the damage firsthand. “Farmers are really struggling because of these heavy rains in Karnataka and the sudden water flow from neighboring Maharashtra,” he said.
Vijayendra called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step up quickly with relief and compensation for farmers and families who’ve lost homes in the Karnataka floods. “We need the state government to act right away, just like when BS Yediyurappa was CM during major floods—he toured the state and rolled out aid without waiting for central funds,” he added. “Siddaramaiah should do the same now.”
The heavy downpours prompted safety measures elsewhere too. On September 27, with an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Kalaburagi district, local school authorities shut down classes for the weekend. The holiday covered September 27 and 28 to keep kids safe amid the Karnataka heavy rains.
In the meantime, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, who’s in charge of Kalaburagi, stopped by rain and flood-affected areas. He listened to locals and victims share their concerns, according to the department’s public relations officer.
