'Govt residences must be vacated eventually': Tej Pratap reacts to Rabri Devi's 10 Circular Road bungalow exit

Patna, Dec. 27 (IANS) – Political tension is running high in Bihar as Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family moves out of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna.

The elder brother of the RJD’s senior leaders, Tej Pratap Yadav, said that a state‑owned house belongs to the government, not any one person, and that it must be vacated “sooner or later.” He added that if the official residence is taken away, the family would relocate to their own home.

Rabri Devi, who had inhabited the bungalow for more than twenty years, has just been allotted an alternative official residence by the Bihar government. Although the RJD had earlier insisted that the property would not be vacated, the process began quietly in recent days, sparking fresh political debate across the state.

After the new government took office, the State Building Construction Department sent a notice to Rabri Devi on November 25, 2025, directing her to leave 10 Circular Road.

Tej Pratap Yadav also spoke about threats he’s received online, saying he has written to Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary about the matter.

In addition to the residence issue, he raised concerns over the law‑and‑order situation in neighboring Jharkhand. On Saturday he visited the family of a victim in Patna following the murder of Ashutosh Kumar’s brother in Jharkhand. Ashutosh Kumar, a convener of the Bhumihar Ekta Manch, was reported as a key figure in the case.

During the visit, Tej accused the Hemant Soren‑led Jharkhand government of giving criminals a free hand and even protecting them. He demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the murder, warning that any delay would only embolden further criminal activity.
