Turning Ceramic Waste into Art: A New Park Blooms in Khurja
Imagine transforming everyday trash into stunning sculptures—that’s exactly what’s happening in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh. The town, famous worldwide for its top-notch ceramic products, now boasts a unique park called Anokhi Duniya. This eco-friendly spot showcases eye-catching artworks crafted entirely from ceramic waste, promoting the "Art from Waste" movement in a big way.
Dr. Ankur Lathar, Vice-Chairman of the Bulandshahr-Khurja Development Authority (BKDA), shared his excitement with . "Khurja’s global fame for ceramic items inspired us to create this park," he said. "Under the theme ‘waste to wonder,’ local artists and artisans have turned discarded ceramic scraps into incredible pieces. It’s a smart way to recycle and celebrate creativity."
Visitors can stroll through the park and admire sculptures that highlight sustainability and local talent. This initiative not only cleans up waste but also draws tourists to explore Khurja’s artistic side.
On a national level, the Indian government is ramping up efforts to tackle waste management. They’ve announced Special Campaign 5.0, running from October 2 to 31, 2025. This drive focuses on e-waste disposal under the E-Waste Management Rules 2022 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). It also aims to improve space management and make workplaces better for field offices across the country.
Building on that momentum, Special Campaign 4.0—from October 2, 2024, to August 31, 2025—set a strong example for cleanliness and environmental care. Led by the Ministry of Coal, it delivered amazing results in public sector units and field offices. According to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) report, the Ministry of Coal topped the charts for space freed and ranked fourth in revenue earned among all government ministries and departments.
The ministry nailed its targets too: they resolved 100% of public grievances and PMO references, reviewed 71,632 files, and weeded out 69,227. Public outreach was a hit, with 2,163 tweets, 1,137 press releases, and 61 PIB statements, plus wide media coverage to spotlight the campaign’s wins.
These efforts show how small steps, like art from ceramic waste in Khurja, tie into India’s bigger push for sustainability and waste management. If you’re in Uttar Pradesh, head to Anokhi Duniya for a fun, inspiring visit!
