In Karachi and Hyderabad, two more women have died from dengue, pushing the death toll in Sindh province to 29 for 2025, the provincial Health Department said today. The victims were residents of the Liaquatabad area in Karachi.
The health ministry said that in the past 24 hours it ran 5,412 dengue tests across Sindh. A total of 976 people tested positive. In Karachi alone, 3,951 tests were done and 528 patients were confirmed with dengue. Hyderabad saw 1,461 tests, with 448 positives.
Health Secretary Rehan Baloch reported that 127 new dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals, while 84 went to private hospitals over the last day. Hospitals also discharged 96 patients from government facilities and 79 from private ones after they recovered.
Until the end of October, Sindh’s health authorities logged 8,331 dengue cases. Adding the October figures to the 13,908 cases reported so far this year brings the total to 13,908 for 2025. Currently, 269 patients are in treatment at government hospitals and 184 at private hospitals.
Last week, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) called on the government to declare a health emergency in Karachi’s and Hyderabad’s worst-hit areas and to launch a rigorous vector‑control campaign. The PMA also demanded an independent audit of Sindh’s dengue prevention and control programme and stricter monitoring of municipal services. The association said that the crisis stems from a failure in public sanitation, waste management, and timely fumigation, and that every death reflects a gap in local governance.
Public health officials urge residents to use mosquito repellents, ensure proper drainage, and report standing water to authorities. The situation remains a growing public health threat as the monsoon season continues.
